Burn Link

Generate a burn link to share sensitive text securely. After the recipient opens it, the secret is destroyed.

What is a burn link?

A burn link is a self-destructing URL for secrets. Paste a password or API key, click lock, and share the link. After the allowed views or TTL, the ciphertext is gone.

Optional passphrase and expiry

Add a passphrase so a leaked link stays locked, and set TTL so unread links burn after 1 hour, 24 hours, or 7 days.

How this page is different

Burn Link exists to create the burn link itself and choose views and expiry before the URL exists. It is not a second copy of the tool homepage. The homepage introduces the whole product. This page stays on one job so a search for that job lands on instructions you can follow without hunting through other tabs. Read the result on this page against the input you actually used. A screenshot without the input is not evidence. If the result surprises you, change one thing and run it again before you change your VPN, browser, or server config.

Do this on the page

Work through Burn Link in order. 1. Choose expiry and max views first. 2. Paste the secret. 3. Copy only the URL that comes back. 4. Send that URL without the secret text. Write down the input and the output together. When you ask someone for help, send both. Repeat the same input once. A stable tool returns the same answer. If it does not, the input changed or the page is talking to a different network path than you think.

What this page will not decide for you

The form does not send the message for you. You can still leak the secret by quoting it. Links are bearer tokens. Treat the output as a measurement, then decide. RookVPN does not log the contents of a client-side tool, and a measurement is not a promise that every other app on the device behaves the same way. Compare a second path when the decision matters: a terminal command, another browser, or the matching guide linked below.

A concrete example

Example: expiry 24 hours, one view, payload is an API token. You copy the https link into a ticket and you do not paste the token into the ticket body. The ticket system may log the link. That is acceptable only if one view is enough and bots will not prefetch it.

Where to go next

After you finish Burn Link, open the one-time secret page if you only needed the view limit explained if the next question is different from the one this page answers. Stay here if you are still on the same job. Extra pages help only when they answer a new question, such as a different algorithm, a different leak channel, or a different file type. The documentation link on this page is the long form of the same workflow, including the checks that do not fit in the tool UI.

Frequently asked questions

What is a burn link?

A burn link is a one-time encrypted URL that reveals a secret once (or a limited number of times), then permanently deletes it.

Is RookSecret a free burn link tool?

Yes. Create burn links at rookvpn.com/secret/burn-link without an account.

How long can it live?

Pick the timer in the form. Longer timers mean a stolen link stays useful longer.

Can I see if they opened it?

The view count going to zero means it was opened. You do not get the reader's identity.
