RookCurl Monitoring & Examples

Run curl online, reuse vetted command templates, and monitor URLs without installing curl locally.

RookCurl wraps curl semantics for users on locked-down corporate laptops, Chromebooks, or tablets. Commands execute on RookVPN infrastructure with rate limits and Turnstile abuse protection — not on your local shell.

Online curl basics

  1. Open the main curl workspace.
  2. Paste or compose a command (curl -sI https://example.com).
  3. Inspect status code, response headers, and timing.
  4. Use built-in templates for public IP checks against rookvpn.com/check/api/ip/address.

See online curl tool guide for IP verification workflows.

Examples library

The examples routes document safe patterns: GET with custom headers, POST JSON, bearer tokens (redact secrets before saving history). Click a template to populate the editor — edit hostnames before running against production systems.

Monitoring

Authenticated users can configure monitors that periodically request a URL and alert on status changes. Useful for:

Monitors are not a replacement for Datadog or Pingdom at enterprise scale, but they cover personal infrastructure and small SaaS side projects.

Privacy

Command history may be stored for signed-in users. Avoid pasting live production credentials into shared monitors. Use RookSecret to deliver tokens separately.

Check the result

A monitor that expects HTTP 200 will stay green while the page body is an error. Pair the probe with a manual curl of the same URL when an alert fires, and read the body. One probe location does not prove every user can connect. A timeout that is longer than you can stand to wait is an alert that arrives late. A timeout that is shorter than a healthy cold start is a false page.

Webhooks and email should both be able to fire. A missed email is not a missed outage if the webhook still reached the channel you watch. This monitor is not a leak test. VPN checks stay on RookCheck.
